9th FFTL Congress Concludes, Election of New President Postponed

Wednesday, 10 January 2024 – Hotel Timor, Dili, Timor-Leste

In a significant gathering in Dili, Timor-Leste, the Football Federation of Timor-Leste (FFTL) wrapped up its 9th Congress on Wednesday, 10 January 2024. The main goals of this congress were to get approval for the minutes of the FFTL Extraordinary Congress 2023, assess the Activity Report for 2022, and importantly, elect the FFTL President and one (1) Executive Committee Member for the term 2022-2026. The proceedings took place at 10:00 TLT in Hotel Timor.

Representatives from all FFTL Member Associations participated, representing the diverse spectrum of Timor-Leste’s football community. Municipal Football Associations from Aileu, Ainaro, Baucau, Bobonaro, Covalima, Dili Leste, Dili Oeste, Ermera, Lautem, Liquiça, Manatuto, Manufahi, Oe-Cusse, and Viqueque were in attendance. The professional sector was well-represented, with associations dedicated to Referees, Women’s Football, Youth Football, Futsal, and Coaches.

Highlighting the successes of the past season, the congress recognized the League Champions of the Timor-Leste Football League. Karketu Díli FC secured the 1st Division title in Epoch 22/23, while DIT FC emerged victorious in the 2nd Division during the same epoch.

The prestigious event garnered international attention, with distinguished guests from FIFA, AFC, and AFF to observe the proceedings. On the national front, government representation included H.E. Mr. Nelyo Isaac Sarmento, the Minister of Youth and Sport, Art and Culture, and Mr. Macario Floriano Sanches, the President of All Sports Confederation in Timor-Leste, showcasing the collaborative spirit between sports and government in the nation.

Despite the overall success of the congress, the much-anticipated election of the new FFTL President was regrettably postponed due to some circumstances, as explained in the comprehensive minutes of the Congress.
