On 15 May 2024, a celebration of grassroots football, the Football Federation of Timor-Leste(FFTL) hosted its inaugural Safeguarding Raising Awareness Initiative, emphasizing the importance of safe play for children. Against the backdrop of cheering fans and enthusiastic young players, the festival served as a platform to instill the principles of care, respect, security, and enjoyment in football.
The event, held at the FFTL training field, drew participation from children under 15, underscoring the widespread commitment to fostering a safe and inclusive environment for youth in football. With colorful banners bearing messages of empowerment and safeguarding, organizers set the stage for an inspiring day dedicated to the well-being of children.
Central to the festivities was the heartfelt message conveyed to children: that they deserve to enjoy football in a secure and nurturing setting. As young participants eagerly took to the field, their smiles illuminated the atmosphere, reinforcing the belief that football should be a source of joy for all.
Speaking at the event, Mr. Gaspar Quintao da Silva, a representative of the Football Federation of Timor-Leste(FFTL), emphasized the organization’s unwavering commitment to promoting safe and healthy participation in football. “Our children are the future of football,” he remarked, “and it is our collective responsibility to ensure that they can pursue their passion in an environment free from harm.”
